It was a warm afternoon in Kusuburu prefecture, the short rain earlier did little but creating puddles, spreading patches of orange sky on the pavements.
Uesugi Akira was inside a cake shop, standing right before the glass encased aisle holding an impressive selection of cakes and puddings. Cookies were displayed in oversized jars on the shelf further behind, while the scent of vanilla and cinnamon strengthened the shop's homey atmosphere.
He was wearing a plain khaki t-shirt, a small logo on one of the sleeves being the only decoration, and muted, old-looking jeans. A rubber watch-bracelet was strapped on his left wrist. The boy just returned from the shrine he was going to help in, bringing a basketful of assorted fruits for the monks. On the way back he passed the shop and it occurred to him that fruitcakes would be fitting as housewarming gift for his new neighbors. Honestly, he had no idea what would, but felt like buying fruitcakes.
And now he faced a predicament he didn't thought possible 15 minutes ago. The shop had 14 kinds of fruitcakes. The shop was small. It made no sense.
Uesugi grinned apologetically to the bored-looking waiter, still waiting for him to choose.

[Joing in the fun. ] Bow was bored. He'd finished an assignment early for once, which left him with nothing to do for the rest of the week. That was how often he got any work, once a week. If this kept up, he'd have to find a part time job. The magazines payed him pretty well, but his love for sweets ate up a lot of his pay. Speaking of sweets... he'd almost walked right past his favorite cake shop. After only a month, a lot of the staff knew him by name. He came here a lot, obviously. Bow strolled inside and went right up to the counter, next to a boy about his age. The man behind the counter looked bored, which only meant one thing. This guy had no idea what he wanted to buy. "Having trouble~?" His voice was nearly sing-song, as it usually was when he was happy. His bright blue eyes sparkled as he looked at the other man. Besides, the sooner he got out of there, the sooner Bow could get his cookies.

[Hi~ : D]
Uesugi was in the middle of picking one at random. There were two neighbors on his floor, how about the people one floor above and below? This living alone business was more complicated than he had thought.
"Having trouble~?" an accented voice asked.
He turned to face the speaker, then a split-second widening of dark eyes; the young man before him was blond and blue eyed. A foreigner? Uesugi slipped into a sheepish grin like a lifeboat, "Yeah. Sorry," he gestured the other boy to take precedence, body language open and bright smile in place, "Please go ahead..?"
The waiter looked at the foreigner like salvation --probably from Uesugi--, "Moki-san," he cheerfully greeted, "Back so soon? What can I help you with?"
Moki. That sounded neither European nor Japanese.

[Actually, 'Moki' is Native America. Don't tell! I just liked the sound of it. ] "Oh, no. Take your time." Bow smiled at the other man, bright and full, as always. "It takes me forever to pick sometimes. "Ah, well... do you have anything that's not too sweet?" Maybe he could get Darren to try it... "Liquorice, Moki-san?" "Yes... maybe. Some of that, and vanilla cookies, okay?"
