"Alright class is dismissed." He shouted over the bell, stacking his papers neatly. "And, don't forget we'll be reading up on Macbeth next week! Put on your game faces, because we'll be acting it out!" He said aloud over the sudden chatter as the students left the room to the right. "Ah, ah ah--Kisuke-san, I need to speak with you." He said aloud, waggling his finger at his pupil. He was slightly worried for Kisuke. All the other students were grasping the material rather well--well as well as could be expected for students in high school. "Come," He said softly as he stood, his hands on his hips.
It seemed Kisuke had little to no interest in what theater and arts had to hold. He had made it come alive, made it as exciting as possible, and yet Kisuke seemed unable to not only participate with his classmates, but in the classroom as well. He'd been at the conferences for students, and he'd heard his name come up seldomly. "Kisuke," He began as he sat at the edge of his desk. Some days he came in with bruises, and bandages. He wondered if Kisuke was the kind of kid who fought. He sighed. "I've been noticing that you haven't been at all into this class." He said in a straightforward manner.

Kisuke stood up when the class was dismissed, quickly shoving things into his old and rather ratty looking back-pack, his pencil fell to the floor and he bent to pick it up, at the same time he heard his name being called by the teacher and he stood up again, blinking as he was asked to stay behind.
Kisuke watched the other students leaving and felt nervousness pricking up his spine, letting his pack drop to his desk as he walked over to his teacher with a blank look on his features, a white strip of gauze covering a graze on his jaw, and one across another on the bridge of his nose. “Sensei...?” His tone was questioning. Then his teacher leaned on his desk and folded his arms across his chest, ah... so he was getting in trouble again.
“Sorry... Sensei.” He said the words automatically, like a robot as his tone came out flat and unemotional. He'd grown used to things like this, and the numb feeling that came with it. Still, it was better than being scolded by his mother, the teachers didn't hit him... or touch him.... “I don't like it... reading out loud. People look at me more.” He lifted one of his large hands and rubbed at the back of his neck, it was tense and aching, he was so tired.

"There's nothing to be sorry about, Kisuke." He said, his eyes softening. He looked so tired. "You shouldn't be so concerned about what your classmates think of you. We can't stop what people think about us. It's just best to push forward, and never look back." He gave the youth a warm smile, patting his shoulder gently. "You're a bright student, Kisuke, I know this. And, I believe in it. So, all I ask is that you try a little harder, ok?"
He was not the type to delve into other's private affairs, nor was he the type to interfere into anything either. But, something called him about Kisuke. It was alarming, how much he cared to see more than just a blank look on that face of his. No one was just born like that. Something had happened. Those were dangerous thoughts, he reminded himself. It was best he left those kinds of things alone. "Kisuke, I hope you're not fighting in school. I haven't heard anything, but I hope that isn't the case. I believe you're a good kid, you know?"

“...Ah...” Was his reply. He knew he should try harder, but he really didn't have the drive to do so, people already talked about him all the time, how he was some scary, violent guy who didn't care who he hit when he was angry. That rumour had started, the one which said he hit girls, when his mother had left scratches down his face. “I'll try to try harder.” Again a conditioned response, something that just made the teachers say 'good' and send him on his way.
However Youji-Sensei pressed on and his face flinched slightly. “I... actually sensei... I-!” He started, his expression changing to one which screamed that he wanted to say something, pained even, until it turned into a frown and his mouth opened, lips moving but no sound coming out. “Nothing...” He pressed the heels of his hands to his eyes and rubbed at them in frustration. “I have a bad temper... so I get into fights a lot... Sorry...”

He saw his face change, and for a moment Shinogu's heart went out to him. Had he been fighting some internal struggle deep inside himself? Kisuke was too withdrawn for that--starting fights and getting into trouble. His generic "I'll try harder" seemed to sound so deafeningly false in his ears that something inside of Shinogu stirred when he'd spluttered a quick "sensei" at him, capturing his attention. "Yes?" He prompted on, hoping he'd say the words he needed to say. "Nothing..." He sighed.
Kisuke would take work. He was determined to know what lied behind that face. "I have a bad temper... so I get into fights a lot... Sorry..." He stared at Kisuke for what seemed a long, long time. "You're lying, aren't you?" He murmured gently, bending his head a bit to look at him expectantly. "Kisuke, you have a lot to learn if you expect me to send you away just like that. As a teacher, I really do care. I'm here for all my students, and that includes you as well. You know what?" He snapped his fingers. "If you're not busy, how about I take you to get something to eat? We'll discuss more about this afterwards. How does that sound?" He smiled.

He looked at the floor, or rather... he looked at the scuffed white plimsolls on his feet, after blurting out the way he had. Really... did he really think that he could tell someone? What a joke, he was too much of a wuss for that, too afraid of being even more of a freak and called dirty and disgusting and all manner of unpleasant things. Too afraid of his mother being caught and then her relentless punishments for actually daring to tell someone such a thing. He looked up to Shinogu when he said he was lying, his eyes almost pleading with the teacher to, just this once, leave it be. “I'm not...” He said in the same automatic tone that most of the other things he said seeped out in.
He blinked in surprise when his sensei continued to speak, offered him some food, even. The look of surprise on his face was completely genuine, though it was mixed with quite a bit of confusion as well. “I-....” He blinked again, stumpped on the offer, it had never happened before. Could he really do that? If he came home late what would happen? He'd probably be hit again... but that was nothing new, and he'd almost stopped caring, what was the point? He'd given up on ever being free of it all. “Sensei will really do that for me?” He sounded a little unsure, almost un-trusting in a way, though there was hope in his tone.

"Yes, sensei would really do that for you." He repeated, patting Kisuke's shoulder. Something told him not to pry for now. The almost pitifully adorable look in the tall youth's eyes seemed to rattle his foundation with such sympathy. It went just beyond bandages and bruises. It was best to leave things like that alone until Kisuke was brave enough to tell him. Perhaps he had very little kindness from others. He didn't know why. There was nothing threatening about Kaito Kisuke, and although he was rather tall for his age... it didn't mean he should be hated for it.
Hated. The word seemed to be something in his vocabulary he couldn't stand using. He didn't hate anyone, not even the good-for-nothing parents that had shunned him out almost seventeen years ago from their home. He had never been more happy to have left. He never would've realized his dream of teaching. Somehow he felt he should've thanked his parents. "Now, let's hurry, before it gets too late, hm?" He smiled at him, ruffling his hair.

His face lit up as Shinogu responded positively, he actually smiled, and it felt so odd to have that expression that the sixteen year old blinked and brushed his own lips with his fingertips before flushing slightly at the stupid action and dropping his hand, and his smile. “Thank you, Youji-Sensei!” Maybe he could trust this man, maybe... finally... he'd be able to unload and tell someone about his awful home-life.
“Ok!” He said, the ruffle to his hair making him flinch visibly but the teen didn't seem to notice it himself. He turned around and went over to his desk, picking up his back-pack and pulling it over his shoulders before turning and walking back over to his teacher. “Ah... but...” He started again, his deep voice hesitant. “I don't have much money... can we go some-where cheap?” He asked, feeling a little stupid, why would Sensei like eating cheap crap like McDonalds? But... it really was all Kisuke could afford.

"No problem. I was going to head there for something, anyways. Those chicken wraps are to die for!" He chuckled, his deep voice filling the classroom as he waited for Kisuke to gather his things. He headed to the doorway, hearing the occasional student greet him as he passed down the hallway. "Ah, Youji-kun!" He turned slowly as one of the teachers he was acquainted with came towards him. "Yes?" He responded politely. "Why don't you come with me and some of the other teachers to dinner? We're hitting up this new buffet joint downtown! Care to join us?" He felt the pat at his shoulder.
He'd heard about that restaurant, and had been dying to go, but he noticed Kisuke standing in the corner holding his bag, and was dutifully reminded of what he had to do next. "I'd like to come; however, I promised someone I'd take them for a little lunch date. I'm sorry, Ishida... another time?" The man's face seemed to fall quite a bit, and for a moment Shinogu felt somewhat guilty. "We can go sometime next week? A place like that can't just be experienced once, right?" He smiled, and Ishida rubbed into the back of his neck, his cheeks coloring. "I suppose. Well, take care. We'll all eat plenty in your absence!" He bowed a bit, and Shinogu chuckled as he left.

He smiled again, it felt so alien but it seemed to come so naturally when the other male was speaking to him. “I like those, too.” He said in a quiet tone. He followed Shinogu out of the classroom and walked beside him down the hallway, glancing around at the other students and noting the mostly accusing looks he was receiving, ah... well it didn't matter it was always the way things were.
He blinked as he heard his sensei's name being called and he paused as the other teacher came up and offered to take him out with some of the others. His stomach dropped a bit, an uneasy and hot feeling twisting in the middle fo his chest and moving to his throat. He didn't know what it was, but it was suspiciously like dread. He blinked as he saw Shinogu turn the offer down and the other man went away.
“Sensei...” He said before looking at the floor, his hands clutching the straps of his back-pack. His posture was utterly that of a sixteen year old, and it looked awkward and odd on his large frame, since he looked so much older. “You can go to dinner with your friends. I-I really don't mind... I'll just go home...” His neck felt hot, and his eyes were stinging. It felt like he was going to cry, again... he was always crying, what a joke... usually though, he managed to find a place where no-one would see, like a stall in the boys restroom or a secluded place behind one of the buildings. Sometimes the roof.

The look on his face sent Shinogu's lip pursing, before he put on an encouraging smile. Was there no kindness given to this boy? Was he the first? "A promise is a promise, ne?" He said quietly as he ruffled his hair again. "And, don't make that face, or it will most likely stick, ok?" Shinogu chuckled, patting Kisuke's large shoulder. The look on his face was so terribly out of place, but in such a funny yet cute way. He was too big to cry! Shinogu thought as he ushered Kisuke outdoors towards the teacher parking lot.
It was pretty big, but he always parked in the same parking spot since he'd first gotten this job. It was convenient, it was close, and the sun never hit his car when he parked it underneath the tall oak tree near the side entrance. "Now, I don't know about you," He said as he stretched, slinging his work bag over his shoulder as he went digging into his pocket for his car keys. "But, I want a nice big soft drink to go with my wrap. What's your favorite food on the McDonald's menu?" He asked in an attempt to connect with the youth, opening up his side to get into the car. He leaned forward, and opened up the other side.

Kisuke blinked and looked at the other man as if he'd grown a second head. “But... I don't really think promises have any real meaning these days... unless it's promising something bad.” He said being completely serious. He closed his eyes and pressed his lips together as his hair was ruffled, a look to rival a puppies when the same thing was done to one. His actions and expressions were extremely out of place with his height and his perceived bad0boy image. Kisuke followed his teacher outside and tilted his head as they walked over to his car, he hadn't been in a car since before his parents divorced, it would be weird. He got into the car before he answered, placing his backpack between his legs on the floor of the passenger side. He closed the door and looked down at his lap. “I like... the... cheeseburger.... kids... meal.” He said awkwardly, his face flushing. “Because... of the bread and they don't put weird stuff in it....” To McDonalds]

At that, Shinogu burst into laughter, rubbing his hand into the nape of Kisuke's neck. "Ahh... hhh--kk--" He put on a wobbly smile as he put the key into the ignition, starting up the car. "I haven't had one of those since I was a child." He smiled. He hadn't felt this refreshed in such a long, long time. Something about Kisuke spilled innocence, as if he were ever given a chance to simply be, he would be just that--an innocent young boy.
The reality of it was a tiger's cage, he knew. That was how the world was. Shinogu thought so.
They got out of the parking lot, Shinobu driving down the street for a bit. It was quiet between them both, Shinogu turning a bit to look at Kisuke shortly. What should he talk about? His parents? What sports he likes? He hadn't quite interacted with a sixteen year old before. He'd been a professor, and it was a more mature atmosphere, but Kisuke didn't give him that kind of air. He was glad, had always wanted to work with the teenagers rather than the presumed-adults of the college world. He was glad he'd given up his college-teaching career. The young ones had always kept him on his toes, anyways.
"Ah, almost there," He said as he saw the Arch sign of McDonald's come into view, turning in to drive through the parking lot and into Drive-thru. When he got to the intercom, he waited. "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?" He paused to look at the menu. Today he would do something different. "Ah, yes, two kid's meals please, and can you make it two large drinks instead of small?" He asked, turning to wink at Kisuke. "Ok, you're total is--" He sat up to get his wallet, hearing his total, driving up to the window to pay. "Don't." Shinogu said softly to the teen. "I'll pay." He smiled.

[ From Kisuke's House] [The next day...] Kisuke spent his school day as usual, putting up with the stares and gossip was second nature for him now and it just bounced off. He'd fallen asleep at lunch time, on the roof, and was still there by the time the lesson after started, oblivious because he'd finally managed to find some peace. He rolled onto his side and curled into a fetal position, the sun beating down on his body wasn't hot, but it warmed him. He wasn't dreaming, he'd stopped having dreams when his mother started beating him, but it was pleasant at least, to finally have some rest.

"Then hate me when thou wilt; if ever, now; Now, while the world is bent my deeds to cross, Join with the spite of fortune, make me bow, And do not drop in for an after-loss:"
Shinogu paced the room quietly, his finger tapping his chin. He pulled off his glasses to give a serious look about the class room. It was dead silent, every eye on him--all except for one pair. "Sonnet 90, Shakespeare." He said softly, leaning on his desk. "Shakespeare was one of the greatest playwrights of his time--and even today. Macbeth was a spectacular piece, and I hope each and every one of you put effort into making it come alive..." He took the time to look at each and every one of them with a serious gaze. "Today is friday, so rest up, and read over the first portion of Macbeth. Come with your minds and your hearts open!" He said aloud as the bell rang. As the class room emptied, he looked at Kisuke's chair. He wondered where he was.
